Athanasios P. Stergioulis
MSc Architect NTUA
He studied Architecture in NTUA [2001], and undertook his Masters degree at the University of Aberdeen [MLE – Property Investment & Development, 2002]. CUBE was founded in 2007 following the expansion of his work as a sole practitioner, a new step towards teamwork and cooperation.
Prior to CUBE, he undertook his practice at Kaloudiotis Architects, Athens focusing on public space and large urban masterplans and afterwards as a part of a multi-disciplinary design team at M&A and partners in Athens, on number of award winning conservation projects. From 2004, along with a small number private design studies, he took over as a Project Architect at VL Construction Company in Preveza, focusing on vacation-house complexes and small resorts.
In 2006 he undertook a unique project. Designing a sustainability-driven Storage Center in Ioannina Industrial Area, a Logistics building that, for the first time in Greece, used innovative & cutting-edge solar technologies, regarding producing, storing and using solar-produced power from thin films incorporated within the glass facades of the building. This was followed by an award winning project [7th BIENNALE 2012], a single family House with guesthouses in Bizani, where the archetypal form of the overall structure, was accentuated by the large stone-cladded walls, which are broken solely by narrow openings and the copper-clad roofs, a contemporary approach to vernacular architecture. This drew commission of a unique small hotel complex [sivota seascape, 2008] on Sivota coastline, a very delicate project due to landscape and environmental restrictions. A number of stand alone projects have followed which have extended an architectural language of preserving human qualities in terms of scale, material and shape, connecting new structures to their natural and cultural setting. Since then, the firm has been established as a design-led practice, undertaking a broad range of small & large scale projects, from private residential houses & apartment refurbishments, to complex alteration and extension projects to historic buildings and designing unique hotels & commercial spaces.
